Ferry leaves at 10:15 (pick up at 9:30)
- Ferry to Hoy: Begin your day with a brief yet picturesque 10:15 AM ferry ride from the Orkney Mainland through the impressive Skapa Flow towards Hoy, Orkney’s second-largest island. Take in the tranquil views of the surrounding waters and scenery.
- Rackwick Bay: After the short ferry crossing, we arrive at Rackwick Bay. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to wander along the stunning silver sand beach, embraced by towering red sandstone cliffs – an invitation for photographers and nature lovers alike.
- Old Man of Hoy: Departing from Rackwick Bay, embark on a stretching walk to the Old Man of Hoy, Orkney’s most famous location. The sandstone sea stack stretches out of the surf just south of St Johns Head (the UK’s highest vertical cliff face). A great way to see Orkney Wildlife including our famous “Bonxies”
- Picnic Lunch: Enjoy a specially prepared picnic lunch by our sister company Jane & Paul’s Orkney Produce (https://www.jporkneyproduce.co.uk/), showcasing a delightful selection of local fare. Find a comfortable spot with a scenic view for an al fresco dining experience like no other.
- Dwarfie Stane: Post lunch, we make our way towards the fascinating Dwarfie Stane. This impressive 5000-year-old Neolithic tomb holds tales of its use by Vikings between the 8th and 12th centuries, serving as an area to store poisons and weaponry.
- Skapa Flow Museum: Conclude your historical adventure with a visit to the Skapa Flow Museum. Newly opened in June 2022, this museum charts Orkneys military involvement in both world wars.
- Return Journey: We leave the museum with stories and memories to cherish, with a scenic drive back to the ferry terminal. Reflect on the day’s discoveries as we sail back to the mainland.
- Ferry Returns: The ferry journey back offers a final sweeping gaze over the seascape of Orkney, aiming to dock at the Mainland by 4:40 PM.
- Drop-Off: After disembarking, you’ll be comfortably transported back to your accommodation or drop-off point around 5:30 PM. This will bring an end to a memorable day exploring the wonders of Hoy.
